Guidance for FM Professionals Following the Updated EHRC Guidance
We know the updated EHRC Code of Practice has been hard for many people in our community.
For trans and non-binary colleagues across the FM industry, it's raised real questions — about how they'll be treated at work, whether they'll still feel welcome, and whether the places they spend their days will still feel safe. And for allies in FM roles, there are so many questions about what this guidance actually looks like, in practice, in their day-to-day jobs. Those concerns matter to us, so we've chosen to respond with care rather than fear.
This guidance is our people-first answer. It's written for the trans and non-binary people navigating these changes, for the frontline teams and managers who want to support their colleagues well, and for the employers and leaders looking for a thoughtful, lawful way forward. Grounded in the law as it currently stands and in good workplace practice, we are simply trying to offer a clear, humane place to start.
Because whatever changes organisations may consider, the purpose of our profession stays the same: creating workplaces where everyone is safe, respected and able to work with dignity.
