Emma McLaughlin- Edwards
Hi, I’m Emma 👋
I’m a gay woman who’s spent over 20 years working across Facilities Management — from site-based roles to boardrooms. Along the way, I’ve learned a lot about what helps people feel confident, valued, and able to do their best work… and what it costs us, emotionally and physically, when we don’t feel seen, represented, or heard.
Alongside being Co-Chair of LGBT+inFM, I run Inner Works, where I work with leaders to turn good intentions into everyday reality. Less glossy statements, more real-life impact. I’m interested in how work actually feels — in meetings, on site, in decision-making, and in the quiet moments where people are deciding whether to speak up or stay quiet.
My work is shaped by lived experience as much as professional one — leading in male-dominated environments, balancing senior responsibility with family life, and building a business of my own. I know the effort it can take to constantly read the room, to judge whether it’s safe to be visible, or to shrink yourself just a little to fit. I bring empathy, honesty, humour, and a healthy dose of practicality to those conversations.
As Co-Chair of LGBT+ in FM, my hope is to help create spaces where that weight feels a bit lighter. If any of this resonates — or even if you’re just curious — you’re very welcome. Pull up a chair (virtual or otherwise), grab a cuppa, and join the conversation in whatever way feels right for you.
